Online Keyboard Tester & Latency Test — Check Keys, Input Lag & Delay
Wondering if your keyboard is in perfect shape? Run the ultimate keyboard test and keyboard latency test right here. Our free keyboard input lag tester instantly checks for dead keys, ghosting, bounce issues, and keyboard delay so you know exactly how your keyboard performs for gaming or typing speed.
Keyboard Latency Test — Why Input Lag Matters
Keyboard input latency (also called input lag or keyboard delay) is the time between pressing a key and your computer registering it. Even a few extra milliseconds can make the difference in competitive gaming or coding precision.
How to Run a Keyboard Input Lag Test:
- Press any key in the test area above — the tool measures keypress duration and response time.
- Check the live display to see latency test keyboard results in real-time.
- Compare values across different keyboards (wired vs wireless, membrane vs mechanical).
- Lower latency is better: Gaming keyboards typically have 1-5ms latency. Under 10ms is excellent for gaming.
- Scan rate matters: Measured in Hz, it's how often your keyboard checks for key presses. 1000Hz (1ms) is standard for gaming keyboards.
- Ideal gaming performance: Look for keyboards with ≤5ms latency and ≥500Hz scan rate for competitive play.
What is N-Key Rollover (NKRO) and How Do You Test It?
N-Key Rollover (NKRO) measures how many keys your keyboard can register at the same time. High NKRO is important for gaming combos and fast typing.
How to Test NKRO:
- Press and hold several keys at the same time (e.g., W + A + S + D + Space + Shift).
- Watch the tester’s live display to see how many keys are detected simultaneously.
- Repeat with different combinations to check rollover performance across the entire keyboard.
What is a Keyboard Bounce Test?
A bounce test detects key bouncing, when one press sends multiple unwanted signals. This can cause double letters or repeated actions. Our keyboard input latency tester allows you to set a bounce detection threshold in milliseconds (ms) — lowering the ms setting makes the test more sensitive, while increasing it filters out very quick presses to focus on serious bounce issues.
Note on Stuck Key Detection: The tester’s "stuck key" system will mark a key as dead if it is held down too long. Even if the key works, keeping it pressed for an extended time will trigger dead key detection. For accurate results, press keys normally — if a key is truly dead, it will still be recorded as such.
How to Test for Key Bounce:
- Pick a single key (e.g., the letter A).
- Tap it quickly 10–15 times in a row.
- Check the tester’s bounce counter — extra counts mean your key is bouncing.
What is Ghosting on a Keyboard and How to Detect It?
Ghosting happens when pressing certain keys causes extra “phantom” inputs or prevents other keys from registering.
How to Test for Ghosting:
- Hold down three keys at once (e.g., Q + W + E).
- While holding them, press a fourth key (e.g., A).
- If the fourth key doesn’t register, or another unexpected key appears, your keyboard has ghosting.
How to Start the Online Keyboard Test
Simply press any keys in the test area above — our live tester will show real-time results for NKRO, ghosting, bounce, and keyboard latency.
What Your Results Mean
Excellent Keyboard Health
- Full NKRO support (all keys register simultaneously)
- Zero ghosting in tested combinations
- ≤1 bounce event per 10 key presses
- Keyboard latency under 5ms
- No dead keys
Your keyboard is performing perfectly! Maintain it with regular cleaning.
Good (Minor Issues)
- 6KRO support (most keys work simultaneously)
- Occasional ghosting in complex combos
- 2-3 bounce events per 10 presses
- Latency between 6–15ms
- 1-2 non-essential dead keys
Still functional, but consider these upgrades based on your use:
For Typists/Coders:
Logitech MX Keys S Perfect key travel • Quiet typing • Multi-device $129.99For Casual Users:
Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic • Affordable • Reliable $59.99Needs Replacement
- ≤3KRO (fails basic combinations)
- Frequent ghosting in common combos
- ≥5 bounce events per 10 presses
- Latency over 20ms
- Multiple dead essential keys
Your keyboard is significantly impaired. We recommend:

Keyboard Test & Latency FAQ
How do I know if my keyboard is failing?
Your keyboard likely needs replacement if: Keys don't register, letters repeat randomly, or combinations fail (like Shift+A). Test all keys with our tool above.
What’s the difference between 6KRO and NKRO?
6-key rollover (6KRO) keyboards register up to 6 keys at once. N-key rollover (NKRO) handles unlimited simultaneous presses. NKRO is essential for gaming and fast typing.
Why does my keyboard type wrong characters?
This is usually caused by: Driver issues (update via Device Manager), sticky keys (clean with isopropyl alcohol), or hardware failure (test with our tool).
Can I test a Bluetooth keyboard?
Yes! Our tester works with Bluetooth, USB, and wireless keyboards. For accurate results, ensure your keyboard is fully charged and paired correctly.
How to fix keyboard ghosting?
Solutions include: Using a different USB port, updating firmware, or upgrading to an NKRO keyboard.
How do I test keyboard input lag?
Use our free keyboard input lag test tool. Simply press any key, and the tester will measure response time, keypress duration, and delay instantly.
What is the average keyboard latency?
Most modern wired mechanical keyboards have latency under 10ms. Wireless or Bluetooth keyboards may have 15–30ms delay depending on signal strength and drivers.
What’s the difference between keyboard delay and latency?
Keyboard latency measures the time it takes for input to register. Keyboard delay often refers to system-level response lag or settings like “repeat delay.” Both can be tested here.
Does this work with gaming keyboards?
Yes! The tester supports mechanical, membrane, and gaming keyboards. You can test NKRO, input delay, and keypress duration.
